It’s a common thought, how if we were to go back in time, the smallest change could drastically alter the compounding direction of where we are at this very moment.
If we believe this to be true, you would think we would hold the present day and the decisions we make on a daily basis with higher regard than we do.
In culture, we often ask ourselves, “will we ever be able to travel back in time?”.
It’s difficult to predict to some degree; but in some respects I feel – maybe not.
Here are few ideas that kept coming up for me this last week:
If I could travel back in time, my life would be perfect right now. At least that is the superficial sentiment. Reason being, because I could keep going back and change things until they are.
Although this could be true, I do know I have come to want different things in my life as it has progressed. The more I’ve experienced in my life, the more likely I have come to alter my hopes and desires.
What I’ve wanted at one point in my life, isn’t what I have come to want later – so how could the future me be confident in what to change?
And if I’m struggling with this idea, wouldn’t everyone else – who also could go back and time and change their ways?
I can’t help but think that due to the complex nature of compounding choices and reconciling the needs and wants of so many individuals our future selves determined time-travelling is a non-value added endevour.
Perhaps we are being guided by something beyond our current knowingness.
God, if you will.
Maybe God is the future you, calling with the slightest whisper.
Perhaps it is who you could be that imbues your life with purpose.
Surely, the version of you who has seen your path, your pain, your love, your intent, what is to come….and how it is all to end…this must be God.
Maybe the future is be the wrong thing to change. Â
